Future services in Cardiff
We are seeking parent's views on what is needed and ought to be prioritised over the coming 5-10 years across Cardiff.
We are looking at opportunities and services for adults but parents of children need to participate and share ther views
Can you highlight any gaps or shortfalls in provision at present?
Can you suggest services, opportunities and facilities that need to be prioritised over the coming years?
Any thoughts and ideas are welcome.
We are representing these views at forthcoming planning meetings including an event scheduled for 13th May but welcome contributions on an ongoing basis  - the more evidence of need or demand the better!

Strategic Plan update

HJC
At the last Advisory Planning Group we were told that the above consultation would be carried out by means of a questionnaire that will be sent to all people known to Learning Disability services and their carers.
We shall remind you in future newsletters when this form is ready but urge you to take some time to return it - this will be the basis of deciding what services are invested in over the coming decade and your views will count!
Parent's Views urgently sought!

The proposed strategic plan for Cardiff currently being discussed will shape the way services are delivered well into the next decade. This is an opportunity for parent carers to have their views taken into account.
This consultation affects ALL carers in Cardiff. Even if you care for a young child at the moment, in ten years you may seek to access adult services and we need to influence their shape NOW!
Please post your views on this topic and members will present them at future Planning Group meetings - these meetings will continue throughout the year and beyond so it is never too late to have your say but get in touch soon to ensure that we can influence decisions being made now.
Campaign for Hydrotherapy pool(s)
Currently there is no Hydrotherapy pool in Cardiff and the Vale that the public can access.
The Parent's Federation is gathering evidence of need for such facilities and is seeking any supporting information that would strengthen the case for the development of such a resource.
Please add your support or any suggestions or information you may have below.
This information will be used when we next meet as a 'steering group' to press for the development of a hydrotherapy pool - your views matter, please share them...
Report from the earlier 'steering group' meeting can be viewed here

An updated report has been prepared to present to the local Health Alliance in the hope that we can add this need to the coming strategic plan. To view this click here

Supporting evidence still required

We are still seeking letters of support or any statistical evidence that would support this project. Also any links to other hydrotherapy pools would be appreciated. I would like to arrange a visit with members of this group to a few pools to assess how they would suit us.
Latest progress on this project

Thank you to all that have provided evidence to date, we still need more supporting information though. I have made enquiries to a number of funding bodies regarding their potential support for developing better hydrotherapy facilities and have had positive feedback but we will need to prepare a strong and fully costed case for support. We need to prepare a formal feasibility study/business plan and I am seeking funding for us to take this stage of the project forward - we shall then be able to agree a shared goal and vision to develop a strategy that will ensure sustainable hydropool provision across the region. The closer I have looked into this it is becoming clear that re-opening a pool in itself is only part of what we have to achieve - else we risk repeating the mistakes of the past! Has anyone any comments or views to share? I suggest we call a follow up meeting of the group in early November, in the meantime I shall seek funds for a feasibility study.

I would like to thank those that have sent in comments and information but we are still a long well short of a compelling case! Please take a few minutes to add any information that you can offer to strengthen the case for extra provision - we know it is needed but need more evidence!!
